What the numbers say about Singapore
The local term matters. Venues call themselves LAN shops and cyber cafes rather than gaming cafes, and it shows on the signs: Titans Esports Gaming Kovan is listed as a LAN shop and cyber cafe. Chains hold the market - Titans runs five rooms, Elixir four, Clique four and Wanyoo three. The largest floor is Big O Gaming Cafe at 54 PCs; the most-reviewed is Elixir Esports on Penhas Road, with 1,014 Google reviews.
Seven of the 18 publish an hourly rate, from S$2 at Big O to S$4.50 at Titans in Taman Jurong, currently marked as temporarily closed - the lowest published rates we record in any currency. Sixteen are open past midnight and five run around the clock, including the two Elixir rooms added in September, in Holland Village and Beauty World. Two Clique branches pair the gaming floor with a pool hall.
